Doctor Who - Season 5 concludes - no new shows till X-mas :(

I have to say I still have mixed feelings about the new Doctor. Russel Davies and David Tennant left some pretty big shoes to fill. I am not saying it was bad, not at all. I actually liked it quite a bit, but it will take a little time to accept that the old Doctor is gone and the new one is something different.

When I first learned about Matt Smith, I was really wondering if the producers new what they were doing. He is the youngest Doctor ever and he didnt have a lot of experience to go off of. I feel he delivers pretty well (despite my comment about having big shoes to fill). Steve Moffat, now him I was ok with (I loved Coupling). Karen Gillian and Arthur Darvill also made good companions. Anything Smith was missing was made up for in the dynamic between him and the two companions.

My only real gripe is this last episode was a bit much, though. I get the feeling that there was a desire to go bigger than anything before, but that is a pretty tough feat to pull off (especially in terms of the Doctor!). It comes across enjoyable, but I wouldn't call it epic.

All this being said, Doctor Who still remains as one of the best sci-fi shows on television. I am looking forward to the next season.

Oh, I also really hope the do some tie-ins with the upcoming Torchwood (slated to start airing some time next year...)! The episodes with the Doctor/Torchwood tie-ins still remain as some of the best ever in my mind.

New Futurama! It's gonna be fun on a bun!

Watched the new Futurama episode(s) last night. Excellent! They did a great job picking up where it left off. It felt like they have retained the original spirit of the show. It also seems like they have gone a little edgier with the show now that it is on cable and not general broadcast. I will say the one thing that concerned me was the second episode had a deeper story that a lot of other episodes, but that made it feel slightly rushed at times. Still good though. Looking forward to a whole new season!

Angel Beats

I just finished watching Angel Beats, a 13 episode anime.  This one was a a complete story that didnt leave a possibility of a second season (i.e. story completed and loops all closed).  I found this one entertaining, but at the same time I wouldn't add it to my "must watch" list.

At first I was really unsure where they were going with it, but it developed into a nice plot.  There was a good balance between humor and emotion, though the story is really aimed at a younger crowd (whatever, I still enjoyed it, lol).  I think one of the best parts of this one was I couldnt predict where it was going, even at the end.  I feel plots have been so reused lately, so this one was a little more original.

Overall I would say:
Plot:  6.5/10 - fairly original, but at the same time I wasn't left rethinking the foundations of life
Characters:   7/10 - given that it was a short run, they did a good job packing in a lot of background
Humor: 6/10 - random-events type humor
Emo-ness: 6/10 -
Fun: - 6.5/10
Animation: 6/10 - on par with most animes today
Audience Age: 15+

for i=1:inf print 'Hello world!' end;

Well, here's my first post on yet another blog! lol....sigh. I felt it was time to start something new...just in time for Futurama to start airing new episodes! Speaking of which, I haven't seen the new episode yet, but I will be sure to give my opinion after I do.

So, why am I here? idk. Why are you here? We could get into a long, deep, drawn out philosophical discussion on those questions. But to be relevant, I wanted to start something to document my love of anime, fantasy/scifi, cartoons, etc. I have watched/read/listened to enough that I am losing track, so this will be my way of keeping record and possibly introducing others to something good, too!
